Looking forward to the approach of summer 2015 and to get through a cold winter there’s no better way to dream of the heat than by the thought of plunging yourself in fresh water.

In recent years open water swimming has significantly grown in popularity and is now known among swimmers as one of the most challenging and rewarding water sports around. Open water swimming occurs in outdoor bodies of water, such as lakes, rivers and oceans. It was featured in the first modern Olympic Games in Athens in 1896, and was included in the triathlon over a century later in 2000.

So if you think you’re a strong swimmer, hitting the open water might just be tougher than you expect.
