Race Report W/E 22nd December

It’s beginning to look a lot like… a rather damp Christmas. Good to see the Saturday ride successfully avoided the various overflowing rivers. However, some of the club decided rain and mud was just the thing for a good race.

As a special Christmas treat, I have also updated the Race Calendar, and produced a short “how to use” guide. You’re very welcome. And here it is (first 2:12 on key club racing; last 1:16 on Race Calendar, Club Strava and Comms):

The link is also available, temporarily on the club page under Race >> Racing for All

And, for those that missed it, we had a mini awards ceremony for two of our trophy winners who couldn’t make last Saturday’s Christmas Party. Fiona Sander was our 2018-19 Sprint queen (winning our Club Champs at Eton Dorney) and Nick van Praag was a our most improved male athlete. Well done both!!

Andover Supercross

Just outside Charlton Village, near Andover, John Borton took part in his first CX race (think offroad with a cyclocross bike – 90% road, 10% mountain bike). A 3 lap course of around 7km of muddy terrain.

From John: “fun, got really muddy and learned lots …. especially that knobbly tyres are really required! #zerotraction”

Wimbledon Santa Run 10k

Also on Sunday, club member Megan Whewell took part a 10k Christmas race on Wimbledon common. In Somme-like conditions, she battled through the mud to finish in just over an hour still smiling!

And that is a wrap (excuse the festive pun). Let me know if I’ve missed anyone from this weekend’s jollies, check out the Race Calendar, and do keep emailing through race news and upcoming events you’re doing. Usual address: fixtures@fulontri.com

Have a wonderful Christmas, Feliz Navidad, Buon Natale, Joyeaux Noel, ハッピークリスマス, Hyvää joulua, Wesołych Świąt, Fijne Kerst, Frohe Weihnachten, Счастливого Рождества and Καλά Χριστούγεννα (although it may be early for the last two depending on which calendar you’re using)!
