Membership/ Are there additional fees for Ful-on Tri training? 2017-09-24T20:44:35+00:00

Unlike many triathlon clubs, once you’ve paid your membership fee and joined the club, you don’t pay any more for your training sessions.

Membership/ How fit or fast do I have to be to join Ful-on Tri? 2017-09-24T20:50:38+00:00

We welcome all new members, regardless of background and ability. Whether you are completely new to triathlon or an experienced athlete, our training will cater for all levels. Prior to attending your first long ride with the club we ask that you are able to ride 4 continuous laps of Richmond Park (approximately 40km) within 2 hours. To join swim training, you must be able to swim 400m continuously.

Kit/ What kit do I need? 2017-09-24T21:49:17+00:00

There are many options for triathlon kit to suit all experience levels and budgets. For a complete beginner, we would not recommend buying lots of expensive kit until you know what is most appropriate for your needs. We can provide plenty of help and advice if you want to purchase or upgrade kit.

For our training sessions, here is the basic kit you will require:
Swim: Normal swimwear, goggles. You will receive a free swimming cap when you join!
Cycling: Road bike, helmet, puncture repair kit, water bottles. You will receive a cycling jersey included in your membership fee.
Running: Running shoes, suitable clothing for the weather.

Volunteering/ How do I volunteer at the club? 2017-09-24T21:51:36+00:00

We have a great club because our committee, our coaching team and our members contribute by volunteering. We ask all members to get involved in helping out at the club where possible.
There are many ways to help, from doing swim sign-in on a Thursday night, to marshalling at club events or helping to organise socials.
Volunteers will receive VIP points throughout the year which can be used to discount the following year’s membership. The newsletter and Facebook forum will highlight what help is needed and when, and you can also speak to a coach or committee member about other ways to help contribute at the club.

Tri/ Does it matter if I haven’t done a triathlon before? 2017-09-24T21:55:52+00:00

Not at all. We welcome all new members, regardless of background and ability. Whether you are completely new to triathlon or an experienced athlete, our training will cater for all levels.
You’ll receive all the help and training you need to get you racing.

Prior to attending your first long ride with the club we ask that you are able to ride 4 continuous laps of Richmond Park (approximately 40km) within 2 hours. To join swim training, you must be able to swim 400m continuously.

Swim/ Does it matter that I’m not a great swimmer? 2017-09-24T22:09:35+00:00

Many people find swimming the most challenging part of triathlon. With good technique and training, you will make significant progress in your swimming ability.
For our swim coaching sessions, we split athletes into different lanes based on speed and ability, so we can cater for all levels – however, as a minimum, you need to be able to swim 400m continuously (e.g. 16 lengths of typical 25m swimming pool).
If you are unable to swim this distance continuously, we can recommend some excellent short swim courses to complete before joining our coached swim sessions.
