Race Report W/E 12th May

A fantastic weekend of racing, kickstarting the tri season with a suitable bang. We had London League racing at Crystal Palace, Middle Distances a plenty, and an early race at Dorney lake. All this spanning 4 countries.

But before we get to all those results… a bit of admin. I’ve been gently nudging you all to remember to add the club on your race entries. It’s important because: a) some races actually count towards club points and trophies; b) it helps advertise and promote the club; c) it helps others know who’s racing (cheering, participating etc). One thing this weekend reminded us – we still have a long way to go to get this right. You know who you are 😉

Late news

Missed from last week’s results – racing very much under the radar – was our very own Kerstin Mogull. She not only took on the Aquabike champs in Pontevedra but also grabbed silver in her race category!

Crystal Palace Tri – London League

6 of the club were speeding around this sprint course at Crystal Palace Sports Complex: Gina Siebler; Jane Osborne; Haukur Heimisson; Rob Argles; Euan Lees; and, Daniel Montilla Navas. A fantastic turnout, two podiums for Rob and Euan, and a PB by 10 minutes for Gina!

All Nations Triathlon – Dorney Lake

An early tri at the rowing lake, organised by Fix Events. Krista Kojecky was our sole racer, blazing a highly respectable 1hr 17min finish time.

Immortal Half – Stourhead

A scenic setting for this spring UK middle distance race. Eimear Toomey and Emma O’Neile took on this challenge. Whilst Eimear flew round until the run, and, despite the DNF, will be blasting out speedy times again very soon, Emma raced for the both of them – placing 3rd woman overall and winning silver in her race category.

Ironman Mallorca 70.3

Traditionally this is a race that a few club members do, whilst the entire Mallorca training camp cheers them. So, hopefully that was the case this year for Sapna Sekhri, Enrique Pinel, and Tom Heaton. Enrique came in first for the club (he’s definitely done this race a few times before though), and impressive work by all three on what is not a bike course for the faint hearted (often followed by a half marathon in an oven).

Ironman Pays d’Aix 70.3

A middle distance in the South of France (Aix en Provence), the course hosted four of the club: Claire Hawkins; Ceri Ruzzi; Thomas Mary; and, Nicola Anderson. All solid finish times, with four under 6 hours.

Ocean Lava Montenegro Middle Distance

Perhaps winning the prize for most off the usual circuit, five of the club ventured off to the Balkans to race: Social Sec Lizzie Matthews; James Brewer; Holly Hardy; Antonio Yousef; and, Paula Botha. James finished first for the club in a cracking sub 5hr time, with Holly close behind in sub 5hr 30min. Impressively fast times by all, with maybe 1 or 2 first timers on the Middle Distance event.

And that’s it for this weekend. Keep up the fine racing, and let me know at fixtures@fulontri.com if I’ve missed anything.
