London League Race Report: Jekyll and Hyde
Written by: Rob Argles.
Hurricane Ophelia wasn’t the only force of nature poised to unleash it’s power on Sunday as FoT headed to Hyde Park for the Jeckyll & Hyde Duathlon. The 12th and last race of the 2017 London League season saw 17 (enough for 2nd place in the Mob match!!) committed FoT racers head to central London in various states of fancy dress for the 4.2km / 20.8km / 7.6km run-bike-run. Having performed so well throughout the season this was effectively a “lap of honour” for FoT having secured EVERY Team competition already but it didn’t stop the team racing hard and scoring big.
First in every sense of the word was James Ellis who won the WHOLE thing in 1:12:28, not too far behind was Nick “spiderman” De B and Tom Scott who helped secure a fine 2nd place for the Men in the Team competition. Not to be outdone Sybille Schorm, Carolina Lanza and Cheryl Boshi combined strongly to get 3rd place in the Women’s Team Competition and together the 6 of them got a fine 3rd in the Mixed Team competition. Outside of the scorers in the Team competitions there were strong performances throughout the field from Cristian Marcos Ayuso, Martin Bruwer, Stewart Juroszek, Mark Sempers, Faye Sanders, Sarah la Hausse, Sian Morgan, Tamsin Booth, Jonathan Moseling and not forgetting Heather Mayer who started but was forced to pull out before the last run. Just as in every race of the League, everyone contributes to the success of the team from the fastest to the slowest and our clean sweep would not be possible without each and every person who took part in 2017.
On a final personal note, I would not recommend racing in board shorts and a Hawaiian shirt as it was both too warm and not very aero!!
A season round-up will follow later with the highs and “chapeaus” but next stop is the awards night on October 29th (see event set up in Facebook) where we have A LOT of trophies to collect.
