Race Results w/e 11th March

Written by Heather Mayer

As I sit here recovering from a pastel de nata filled weekend (it’s an excellent pre-race food!), looking out at the grey sky signalling the very best of English weather, I’m amazed that we’ve made it to March. It’s that time of year when the light is hanging in the sky just a little longer and the coming triathlon season turns from a distant goal to an exciting reality. Of course, it’s still too early to brave any open water in this country, but with the club endurance ride series back on track and many members out sharpening their running for the coming season, there’s hope on the horizon!

Our club members had another good weekend of running races this past weekend. On Saturday, James Ellis donned a Middlesex County bib for his final cross country of the season, the Inter-County Cross Country Champs. Well done to James and the team for battling an incredibly muddy course to take first place team overall.

On Sunday, a number of club members went out for some long runs beyond Richmond Park. On the Mediterranean coast of the Iberian Peninsula, Michel Radermecker had a great run at the Barcelona Marathon.

On the Atlantic coast, Lea Burek, Lucinda Springett, Ruth McIntyre, and Heather Mayer ran the Lisbon Half Marathon, embracing the opportunity to experience bright sunshine, gale force winds, pelting rain, and then a little more sunshine over the course of 13.1 miles. We all agreed it was worth it for the pastries.

Finally, closer to home, Rob Gray and Sophie Kirk took on the Surrey Half Marathon, posting some speedy times.

Well done to everyone for some strong running.

Looking ahead, my calendar tells me next weekend will be another weekend full of running, with CTS Sussex on the Saturday and the Hampton Court Palace Half and Fulham 10k on the Sunday. Good luck to all taking part!
