My Journey with Ful-on Tri
by Ibrahim Bendeq
I joined Ful-On-Tri in June 2024, shortly after moving to London for work. Moving to a new city can be quite overwhelming, especially when you don’t know anyone and are trying to settle into a new rhythm. For me, sport has always been a great way to build structure and meet people, so I quickly started looking for a triathlon club where I could train seriously and feel part of a community.
Before joining Ful-on Tri, I already had some experience in triathlon. I had taken part in a few races in the past, but my training was never really structured or consistent. What’s interesting is that I actually don’t come from an endurance sports background at all — I practiced Judo for many years, which is obviously a very different type of sport. So, when I decided to get seriously into triathlon, it was quite a challenge for me to adapt to the endurance mindset and the long training hours required for swimming, cycling, and running.
Especially for an individual sport, being part of a club is always an added value. That sense of belonging, learning from others, and sharing goals as part of a group was something I truly enjoy. It’s one of the main reasons I decided to look for a triathlon club as soon as I arrived in London. I knew that training alone would never be the same — I wanted to be part of a community where people support and motivate each other.
At that time, I didn’t know anyone in the city, and I saw joining a club as a great way not only to train but also to meet new people and make friends. So, I started researching online, comparing different triathlon clubs in London. I remember reading a few reviews and articles, and one of them said that “Ful-on Tri is the friendliest triathlon club in London”. That immediately stood out to me. I thought, “That’s exactly what I need”.

I decided to give it a try and signed up for a taster session. From the very first training session, I knew I had found the right place. The atmosphere was welcoming, the members were open and encouraging, and the session itself was both fun and challenging. I signed up for the club right after that session without hesitation — it just felt right.
When I joined, my main goal was clear: I wanted to complete the IRONMAN Nice in France. It was a big dream, and at that point, it felt almost impossible. But I quickly realised that Ful-on Tri was exactly the kind of environment where big dreams become achievable. The club offers a huge variety of sessions — from swimming, cycling, and running to strength training and brick sessions — all led by amazing coaches who are passionate, knowledgeable, and genuinely supportive.
One of the things that impressed me most about Ful-On-Tri is the diversity of its members. You can find every possible level of experience: from people who have qualified for the IRONMAN World Championships or represented Great Britain in age group international competitions, to complete beginners who just want to stay active, enjoy training, and have fun. Despite the wide range of abilities, everyone trains together, supports each other, and shares the same enthusiasm. It’s really inspiring to see top-level athletes training alongside those who are just starting out, and the encouragement goes both ways.

Throughout my preparation for the IRONMAN, I felt constantly supported. Training for such a long and demanding event can be tough and, at times, lonely. There are early mornings, long solo rides, and days when motivation dips. But being part of this club made all the difference. I never felt alone — there was always someone to train with, someone to give advice, or simply someone to remind me why I started.
And then came the big day. After months of training, countless hours spent swimming, cycling, and running, I finally stood at the start line of my first IRONMAN. It was one of the most emotional and rewarding experiences of my life. When I crossed the finish line and heard those famous words — “You are an Ironman!” — I couldn’t believe it. I had achieved something I once thought was impossible, and I knew it wouldn’t have been possible without the encouragement, guidance, and friendship I found at Ful-0n Tri.

Looking back, joining this club was one of the best decisions I made since moving to London. Not only did it help me become a better athlete, but it also gave me a sense of belonging in a new city. I met incredible people, built friendships, and learned so much about discipline, resilience, and teamwork.
If someone asked me whether I would recommend Ful-on Tri, my answer would be an enthusiastic YES! Whether you’re aiming to become a world champion, to complete your first triathlon, or simply to train with great people and stay healthy, this club has something for you. It’s more than just a triathlon club — it’s a community where everyone is welcome, supported, and encouraged to reach their personal goals.
