Race Report 08/09/2020

We are back out racing!

It’s been a while Ful-on Tri, but the first couple of weekends of racing, in more than 6 months, has produced some amazing results. Well done to all of those back out competing, it certainly looks like the competitive spirit has not been dampened. Some Ironman branded events are resuming with 3 having kicked off on the weekend of 5/6 September in France, Poland and Estonia. Events Local to the UK and London are also slowly starting up again, I know a few of us are chomping at the bit to get out there and stretch our legs.

Winchester Triathlon (31 August)

Rob Argles, in his first mention on this race report, took part in the Winchester Sprint Triathlon over the bank holiday weekend. Potentially one of the first races of the season, a good few months of no racing definitely did not hinder his performance, with a 4th in category result.

Helvellyn Triathlon (06 September)

Choosing to stay local, 4 hardy Fotters, Ruth Astle, James Ellis, Hugh Reid and Angela Hughes were up in the lake district  taking on what is advertised as ‘as one of the toughest triathlons in the world’. A 1500m Swim in the Ullswater, 60km bike (with over 1000m of climbing), rounded off nicely with a 14.5km fell run and another 1000m of climbing. Stellar performances all round, and kudos to you all for taking on an event like that!

Tallinn Ironman and Tallinn 70.3 (06 September)

More impressive performances from another 4 members over in Estonia, in the postponed full and middle distances. Haukur Heimisson, Nick Busca and Alexander Naudi taking part in the Ironman distance and posting some incredible times. While Kerstin Mogull blew it out of the water (bike and run) in the 70.3, coming first in her age group.

Bournemouth International Triathlon (06 September)

A range of events were being offered up in the Bournemouth International Triathlon including an sprint and olympic distance triathlons, as well as aquabike and aquathlon. Will Manns was out representing Ful-On Tri in the olympic event and doing us proud with a 3rd in his category and 13th overall.

Midweek Super Series (09 September)

A midweek triathlon taking place at the popular Dorney Lake, seasoned triathlete (but new Ful-On recruit) Rick Ballinger showing us how it is done by coming 1st in his age group.

Dorney Triathlon (12 September)

John Church and Rob Argles taking part in 2 of the 6 events this past weekend. John, competing in the sprint event and finishing in the top 10 of his category and Rob, in the standard event, coming 1st in his category!

Dock2Dock (12 September)

Gina Siebler, back out on the racing scene, took part in the 5km Dock2Dock event. Those Shepperton weekends paying off and seeing her coming in 10th in her category.

That is all for now folks, but I have no doubt that there will be more to report on as we edge closer to the end of this very short triathlon season. Apologies for anyone who may have been missed out, do email with omissions, upcoming races and things to add to the race calendar or extra bits of news that help add colour to the reports –  fixtures@fulontri.com

p.s. If you do know of any races (past or future), please do let us know on Facebook or emailing fixtures@fulontri.com. It is unclear how many postponed races have been rescheduled over the next few months so we will rely on you to please confirm your attendance for a shout out on your efforts.
