Race Report W/E 29th September

Writing at the end of a damp and blustery weekend, it’s great to see so many of the club still out racing. We also – DRUM ROLL – seem to have a race calendar where you can see who’s entered again!

We did of course have our own club-run event “The Legs of Steel”. I won’t be covering that here as there will be a separate write up. However, thanks to everyone that helped organise, run and race the event – particularly on such a miserable September Sunday!

For the end of the season we still have a basket full of triathlon results, but with some distance running thrown in for good measure.

Mallory Park 2Up Triathlon

Sophie Kirk managed to track down a novel race this weekend – a triathlon raced as a pair, where drafting is perfectly legal (of your partner, not other pairs!)

Sophie’s team managed to cross the finish line 1st of the ladies’ teams!

IM 70.3 Cascais

One of the last in Ironman’s European race calendar, the 70.3 in Cascais is located not far from Lisbon, in a quaint fishing town. It sounds like the swim and bike legs were great, but the running was pretty hot.

We had a fairly large end-of-season squad out on the course: Lizzie Matthews; Helen Fagan; Eszter Szadeczky-Kardoss; Lea Marie Burek; Katie Marsh; Heather Mayer; Robby du Toit; Lucinda Springett; Jonathan Furuya; and, Katie McCreadie.

First across the line was Jonathan in just under 4hr 58min, finishing in the top 10% of both his age group and the overall field! 7 minutes behind was Heather, in her second triathlon of the season, and claiming a 2nd place in her age group!

We then had a relatively tight group of 3 finishing in a 5 minute window. First up was Katie McCreadie, in 5hr 35min, followed by Robby and Katie Marsh, who crossed the line within 11 seconds of each other! Katie Marsh also placed in the top 10 of her age group!

Our second pair of joined-at-the-hip racers were Eszter and Helen – also finishing within 5 minutes of each other – just under 5hr 55min and 6hr respectively!

Finally – within a 15 minute window – Lea Marie, Lizzie and Lucinda rounded things up in 6hr 30min, 6hr 42min and 6hr 44min respectively!

Strong end of season racing by all!!

Ealing Half Marathon

Our first run of the weekend was a half marathon in West London. Taking part were: Ben Harrison; Mateus Pimenta; Adrian Snow; and, Lawrence Burton.

First across the line was Lawrence, going sub 1:30 by 2 minutes! Following in quick succession, on just under 1hr 31min and 1hr 32min, were Ben and Mateus! Adrian completed the set of great results with a solid sub-2hr finish in 1hr 58min!! Well done all!

Yorkshire 3 Peaks

Tristian Thornhill was out racing the Yorkshire 3 peaks – off-road and fell running – and completed the distance in just under 6 hours!

Berlin Marathon

The weekend rain tracked its way over to the German capital for a mildly soggy Berlin Marathon.

Martin Bruwer swears this is his last (ahem) but put in a damn good show with a 3hr 59min finish time!

Hever Castle Triathlon

The Castle Tri series hosted their final mega weekend of multi-sport racing at Hever Castle this Saturday and Sunday.

The club had Calum Williams racing the Sprint Tri and Gareth Davies on the Olympic course.

Calum managed to finish 16th overall and 10th in his age group in a time of 1hr 24min!

In the Olympic event, Gareth conquered the hilly bike leg to finish in 2hr 45min and coming well within the top 15% of the overall field!!

And that’s your lot for this weekend.

Please email me on fixtures@fulontri.com with any omissions or upcoming races. And, do please let me know if you’ve raced a triathlon this season that is not in any of the weekly race reports – if that’s the case it means you’re not yet in the results tracker and NOT yet in contention for the end of year Race Awards. We can easily fix this, but please don’t leave it until November to speak up.
