Race Results w/c 5th Feb

The main event this week was the double-header cross country on Saturday, followed by the infamous end-of-season curry. Racing for the men’s team at Lloyd Park were James Ellis, Shaun Wood, Euan Lees, Nick De Bouillane, Thomas Claracq, Tom Scott, Rob Gray, Dave Bulmer, Richard Harper, Xavier Faux Pas (our youngest runner, representing the U11 category), Jon Green, Pim Kalisvaart, Mark Benton, Andrea Sala, Crisman Marcos, Francis King, Jose Lopez, Alex Bump, Stewart Juroszek, Martin Bruwer, Jamie Woodland, Richard Bridger, Cyril Deleuze, Peter Moore and Amir Sida. Well done to James for a casual post-mojito first place finish, which I am told is the first ever first place in the history of Ful-on Tri Cross Country, and well done to everyone who took part and survived the mud-fest! The team finished 2nd on Saturday, our highest placing of the year, our final placing in the league was 5th just 50 points behind rivals West 4 Harriers.

Meanwhile, closer to home, the women took on the final race in Richmond Park, battling against relegation. Running in black and yellow (and some pink and blue) were Claire Wood, Jules Weall, Tamsin Ede, Amy Ellerker, Anna Tyndall, CJ Jenkins, Nicola Anderson, Sybille Schorm, Ursula Hankinson, Sally Benton, Cheryl Boshi, Lindsay Aqui, Isobel Dunlop, Stephanie Wise, Emma Swinnerton, Amy Jordan, Faye Sanders, Laure Bret, Ceri Ruzzi, Sarah La Hausse De Lalouviere, Jane Dwyer, Katherine Monsterrat, Alice Honnywill, Suzie Rylatt, Harriet Broad and Alison Chan. Very well done to all for braving the miserable weather, and a particular shout out to our new members who showed up. Sorry if we forgot to mention you had to run before you could eat cake… Unfortunately, we didn’t escape relegation this year, missing out by a mere 25 points, but we’re already looking forward to taking League 2 by storm next season. Watch this space!

Later that evening, we gathered for the 6th annual end-of-season curry. Awards from the night went to the top three men and women racers of the season. On the men’s side it was James Ellis, King of XC, 2nd place to Charlie Elliott and 3rd place Shaun Wood. On the women’s side, Claire Wood was Queen of XC, with Tamsin Ede in 2nd, and CJ Jenkins in 3rd. Finally, there were awards for the most consistent runners – those who showed up for and ran all four races this season, embodying the true cross country spirit. On the women’s side, this went to Amy Ellerker and CJ Jenkins, while on the men’s side, it was Xavier Faux, Dave Bulmer, Mark Benton and Richard Bridger. It’s been a fantastic season all around, thank you to everyone who participated in racing, supporting, and cake eating.

Further afield, and in sunnier venues, new member Stefaan De Smedt raced at Ironman 70.3 Dubai last weekend. Well done on a strong result in a very fast field!

On Sunday, Carolina Lanza also ventured to a sunnier and warmer climate to take on the Barcelona Half Marathon. Although my strava stalking tells me it was 30 seconds shy of her PB, it looked like a very good race.

Down in the southern hemisphere, Captain Rob Argles took 2nd in his age category in the Voortrekker Monument run, a 16km mountain run that included 1,200ft of climbing.

And finally, back on home turf, Katie Ferraby conquered the Humdinger Half Marathon, battling some fine English winter hail and racking up over 1,000ft of climbing over 21km.

As a reminder, we continue to fill out the race calendar for the coming season – take a look and RSVP for the races you’ll be attending. Do get in touch with me on fixtures@fulontri.com if you have any races to add.
