Race Results w/e 1 April

Hope you all had a lovely long weekend, full of lots of chocolate, if somewhat lacking in sunshine. The weather this weekend yet again threw a spanner into the works for any of us, scuppering the annual Good Friday Brighton ride, as well as an early season triathlon on Sunday.

Nevertheless, there was still plenty of racing over the weekend. On Friday, I headed across the city to Ilford to try my legs at some bike racing. I arrived looking a bit like a wet dog only to find that, due to flooding, the 2km criterium course had been turned into 1km loops up and down a hill. Bring on 40 minutes of sprinting uphill, testing my wet weather cornering downhill, and getting thoroughly drenched in the soaking rain. It was good fun (Type 2), and I got to wear a pretty cool space blanket on my tube journey home.

Over in Belgium on Saturday, four of our clubmates took on the Tour of Flanders sportive. Andrea Sala, Mateus Pimenta, Michel Radermecker, and Nicola Busca braved 200km of cobbles and hills to complete the iconic Spring Classic course a day ahead of the pros. Michel enjoyed watching an owl from his TT bars, while Andrea apparently just watched his friends’ bottoms for the whole ride. But seriously, well done to all of you, it’s an impressive achievement.

Finally, on Sunday, Euan Lees ventured up to Regent’s Park for the first of the Summer 10k Series. Euan had a great run and took away a giant chocolate egg for coming in among the first finishers.

Next weekend is looking busy on the racing front, with the Paris Marathon, the Thames Towpath 10, the Regent’s Park Half Marathon, the Bratislava Half Marathon, and the first 25 mile TT all taking place on Sunday. Good luck to all!
