Race Results w/e 15 July

While the world of professional sport was disappointing if you were an England/Federer/Nadal/Serena fan this week (I’m at least a Federer/Nadal/Serena fan, and for the sake of future visa applications I guess I should claim to be an England fan too), Ful-on Tri’s performances certainly lifted my spirits.

First up this week was Nicola Busca, who raced at the ITU Long Distance Championships in Fyn for Team GB. Well done Nic!

On Saturday, Jonathan Furuya completed the Eiger Ultra Trail run, coming in 46th overall, an improvement of 50 places from last year. Back in the UK, while Paul Seddon raced in the hot and hilly Race to the Stones 50k, taking 5th overall and 2nd in his age group.

Meanwhile, in Wales, Jane Osborne, Paula Rutherfoord, and Parys Edwards all took part in the Long Course Weekend, a multi-day event that covers the Ironman Wales course. All three had good performances on the hot and very lumpy course, including an overall win on the 10k for Paula.

Sunday brought the highlight of the week, as our members trekked out to Thorpe Park with the hope of being crowned club Olympic Queen and King at the Thorpe Park Olympic distance race. Well done to all who took part: Alex Bump, Andrea Sala, Andrew Curry, Anna Tyndall, Amy Jordan, Archie Myrtle, Brannigan Barrett, Charlie Fuller, Chris Brown, Edward Dennis, Eimear Toomey, Faye Sanders, Harriet Broad, Haukur Heimisson, Helen Fagan, James Ellis, John Bishop, Jon Green, Jon Saunders, Karl Boehm, Katie Holmes, Kathryn McCreadie, Mark Nielsen, Mike Powell, Nick de Bouillane, Nicole Elliott, Peter Moore, Pierre Roussel, Rachel von Maydell, Rob Gray, Sam Roberts, Sandy Reid, Sapna Sekhri, Scott Griffith, Sophie Kirk, and Will Manns. As for the King and Queen, on the men’s side the race was hotly contested, but Haukur Heimisson took the win in just over 2 hours, just a week after his Ironman Frankfurt race. Places 2-6 were all within 2 minutes of each other, but James Ellis and Nick de Bouillane took second and third. On the women’s side, Sophie Kirk pulled off an icredibly speedy race, taking third overall in the whole event as well as grabbing the Ful-on Tri crown. Completing the Ful-on Tri podium were Nicole Elliott and Faye Sanders (just six weeks after breaking her collar bone!). Moreover, this was a London League race, and Ful-on Tri took top position in the men’s, women’s and mob match. Amazing work everyone.

Also a huge shout out to Carry Triggs Hodge, Martin Bruwer, Richard Harper, Sarah Watts, Walt Rothon, (and any others!) who got up at the crack of dawn to cheer the club on – you’re all better people than I am!

Further afield, Sybille Schorm and Mark Sempers ventured up north to race Ironman UK in Bolton. Both had good races, despite the last minute course change and the oppressive heat, and Sybille took 8th in her age group.

A happy Mark and Sybille after IM Bolton

Also on Sunday, Euan Lees and Julian Beazley raced the British 10k in Westminster, and Charlene Feeney-Seele raced the Bournemouth Pier to Pier swim.

Finally, last week I missed some major results: firstly, out in La Belle France (home of le football), Colin Frew, Ed Challes, Gareth Reid, Sarah La Hausse, and Stewart Juroszek all took part in the Haute Route sportive – 170k with 4,000m of climbing. Back in England, Emma Swinnerton raced the Man vs Coast race from Penzance to Land’s End, taking 8th overall.
