Race results w/e 16 September
While the main competition of the weekend took place on the dance floor on Saturday night between social secretary Jackie “Twerk-off” Curley, Nick “It’s my birthday I can dance if I want to” DB, Jose “Can I take my top off yet?” Lopez, and Heather “I walked a half marathon on this stress fracture, watch me dance” Mayer, there was also a significant amount of racing type competition.
On Saturday, Angela Hughes took on “The Brutal” half ironman distance, an extreme triathlon that lives up to its name. Angela took second in her age group and fifth overall, winning herself a pretty cool rock.
Meanwhile, Sophie Kirk raced the London City Race orienteering race on Saturday and Sunday, taking 4th place Saturday and 2nd place Sunday in the women’s elite races.
Post-summer party activity was high on Sunday: first up was the final London League race of the season at the London Fields Aquathlon. A hearty group of 16 Ful-on Triers made their way up and over to far away Hackney to take a dip in the Lido and run around London Fields. It was a fantastic day for Ful-on Tri, as we managed to secure wins in the men’s, women’s, mixed, and mob-match races on the day, which also secured overall wins of the men’s, women’s and mixed London League titles for the year. Well done to Euan Lees, Haukur Heimisson, Shane McCauley, Xavier Faux, Rob Argles, Sophie Kirk, Trin Head, Thilo Zeidler, Jules Weall, Martin Bruwer, Sybille Schorm, Amy Jordan, Jane Osborne, Rhys Davies, Sian Joseph, Walt Rothon and Lizzie Matthews for good races. Congrats to Euan for taking the overall win and to Sophie for taking third female, and to Euan, Haukur, Shane, Xavier, Sophie, Rob, Trin, Jules, Sybille, Jane, Walt and Rhys for age group podiums! Thanks to everyone who has contributed to our London League success this year!!
Also on Sunday, Mark Sempers went out to test himself on a 25 mile time trial. Mark has long been looking to break the hour mark on a 25 (which means holding over 40kph for around an hour!), and put a lot of hard work into hitting his target. Hard work reall does pay off, as Mark stopping the clock well under the hour in 56:12. Congrats Mark!
Further afield, Luke Hardman and Janice Hardman were out at the Berlin Marathon. Congrats to Luke for posting a new PB, coming in at 3:05:14, and to Janice for putting in a solid effort!
Also smashing a running PB was Emma Guthrie, who ran her first sub-50 10km in the Adidas City Run in Clapham. Emma has had a cracking year for running PBs, and this is another big one for her. Well done!
Over in Richmond Park, well done to Jon Green, Elton Ross and Mel Bryant raced the London Duathlon.
