Race Results w/e 17 June

This week brought one of the highlights of the racing calendar, the Parkland Relays in Richmond Park on Wednesday evening. We came away with two podiums, taking 3rd place in the Men’s and Women’s competitions. Congratulations to James Ellis, Geoff Maher, Shuan Wood and Euan Lees on the men’s side, and to Ruth Purbrook, Anna Tyndall and Tamsin Ede on the women’s side. More importantly, though, if there had been a mob match to win, we would have taken it, as we made up around a quarter of the field! Well done to all who came to run, it was a fantastic event. A huge thank you to Lucinda Springett and Colin Frew for organising the Ful-on Tri squad.

Moving into the weekend, congratulations to Jane Osborne for completing the Celtman. If you haven’t heard of this before, it’s sort of like an Ironman, but a lot harder: 3.4k swim in really cold water with jellyfish to keep you from getting bored, 202k bike across the Scottish Highlands, and a 42k trail run up a couple of mountains. Moreover, the weather turned against Jane, adding some good rain to the challenge. Nevertheless, Jane completed the course in good form, winning herself a blue shirt.

On Sunday, we had a strong Ful-on Tri contingent out at the Windsor Triathlon. Alistair Chappelle, Mateus Pimenta, Katherine Montserrat, Peter Moore and Daniel Steele all raced the Olympic distance. Al had a fantastic race, placing 3rd overall and winning his age group.

Jenny Kirkwood raced the Dorney Lake Olympic triathlon, taking 3rd female in her second ever race. Congrats Jenny!

Further afield, Andrea Sala and Jonathan Saunders raced at the European 70.3 Champs in Elsinore, Sweden. Well done guys!

As for the London League, Rob Argles, Tom Scott, Richard Harper, Sophie Kirk, Andrew Feeney-Seale, Xavier Faux and Martin Bruwer ventured out to Dartford for the Bridge Triathlon, while Charlene Feeney-Seale took on the Bridge Aquabike. Team Ful-on Tri had a good day out, with Sophie taking the overall win and Rob taking 2nd in his age group. Martin had a tough day, cramping on the bike in his third triathlon in three weeks, forcing him to DNF. Well done all!

And finally, last weekend I missed that Ruth Purbrook took 2nd place in the first Richmond Park Time Trial, while Nick Busca was off in Italy taking on the Haute Route.Looking ahead, this week is the start of the window for our channel swimmers to get out on the water. The team of Euan Lees, Nick Berry and Shane McCauley will relay swim across the channel. They are raising money for the Brompton Fountain, which supports children with serious, often life-threatening, medical conditions. If you want to donate, click here: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/fot-englishchannelrelay It’s a pretty impressive feat they are undertaking, particularly given some team members’ dislike of open water and cold water…good luck!!

Shane really likes cold water…
