Race Results w/e 2 September
Welcome to September! The air is growing crisper, the thought of cross country is entering our heads (or should be…), and our rides are turning into cake trips: you know it’s nearly the off-season. But this is Ful-on Tri, and of course there are many racing right up to the end, including a number of athletes who were out tearing up the world this last week.
Down in the Southern Hemisphere, a hearty group of Ful-on Tri members raced at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Port Elizabeth. The ladies raced on Saturday in what was truly stunning weather (particularly stunning after the howling winds that had been present just the day before). Congratulations to Sarah Lewis who toed the line in the pro race and came 12th, to Sophie Kirk for an impressive 13th in age-group and sub-5 hour performance, and to Janice for being incredibly smiley around the course. I had a shocker of a race, but managed to cross the line nonetheless. The boys were a little less lucky with the weather gods, but there were still some strong performances from FoT. Congratulations to Karl Boehm, Nick De Bouillane, Kenneth Murray, Luke Hardman Andrea Sala, Jon Saunders and Enrique Pinel for excellent races despite tough conditions!
On the single sport front, well done to Pieter Van Wezel for completing the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships on Sunday in Varese. Shaun Wood and Phil Roker took on the penultimate TT in the West London Combine this weekend, a short and sharp 10 miler. Shaun posted a 23:30 and Phil posted a 25:20. Well done guys!
On foot, well done to Chris Clarke for racing at the Mont Blanc Ultra OCC. Congrats also to Paula Rutherfoord ran a cheeky mid-week 5km at the London Inter-Agency race and put herself on top of the podium, and to Jules Weall who raced the Regent’s Park 10k on Sunday.
