Race results w/e 20 May

Another stellar weekend of weather, another stellar weekend of racing. What an amazing club we have.

For starters, Saturday morning saw yet another round of the London League at the Tooting Lido Aquathlon. Ful-on Tri had a big team turnout for the 810 meter swim and 7km run. Haukur Heimisson, euan Lees, Rob Argles, Tom Scott, Jonty Bloomfield, Herve Vignalou, Nicole Elliott, Nell Kenny, Calum Williams, Issy Dunlop, Jenny Kirkwood and Rhys Davies all took part. Congratulations to our stellar team of ladies who took the top prize for the day, earning us a valuable 100 points in the London League, and to Haukur and Euan for taking first and second place (and securing second place for the men’s team with Rob Argles). Special mention to Herve for a nearly 5-minute transition time, I hope the coffee and croissant were to your liking 😉

Also on Saturday, Sophie Kirk took on Challenge Lisbon, and in an outstanding display, Sophie came home first age-group woman. Congratulations!

Sophie won Challenge Lisboa

Finally on Saturday, well done to Amy Ellerker at the Nottingham Sprint triathlon, and to Zoe Fitsimmons who raced at the Eton Dorney Sprint triathlon.

Sunday brought with it the Ful-on Tri Sprint Championships out at Eton Dorney. Well done to all who took part: Haukur Heimisson, Nicholas, De Bouillane, Rich Curling, Will Manns, Tom Scott, Jason Parrish, Jon Saunders, Archie Myrtle, Andrea Sala, Fernando Ramos, Rob Churcher, Jane Osborne, Mark Nielsen, Katherine Montserrat, Jon Moseling and Naomi Murdoch. Well done to Haukur and Jane, our new club sprint king and queen.

Also out at Eton, but taking part in the ITU Sprint Qualifier were Pim Kalisvaart, Kerstin Mogull and Sandy Reid, while Eimear Toomey raced the super sprint and took second place overall.

Well done to Nick Busca for racing the Arundel Lido Triathlon.

Sunday also brought a number of middle distance races. For starters, Dr Lindsay Aqui (PhD) celebrated her newly minted title by going and smashing the Swashbuckler Half, posting a massive PB and coming in third in her age group.

Meanwhile over in Cambridgeshire, James Ellis, Justin Cunnew, Dante Mama, Ed Challes, Brannigan Barrett, Guido Hakkenburg, Lorraine Kelsey, Lucinda Springett, Stephanie Wise and Jon Green all raced at Grafman Middle Distance Triathlon. Congrats to James for taking 4th overall. Also a special mention to Lorraine for completing her first ever triathlon, and to Steph for posting a big PB over her performance last year despite the swim being full length and racing with an upside-down bottle cage (was it more aero?).

Up in Nottingham, Shaun Wood, Lea Burek and Neil Batsford raced the Outlaw Half. Shaun raced his way to first in his age group and what I believe was 5th overall for the non-elites (I did a lot of stalking, can you tell I had better things to do?).

Meanwhile, Ruth Purbrook took on the Savage at Slateman – completing both the sprint and the standard distances back to back on Saturday and Sunday. Ruth came in 2nd in both races, taking 1st overall for the Savage.

Out in Barcelona Ful-on Tri had a stormer of a day at the Ironman 70.3 European Club Championships, although none of our members knew that’s what they were getting into… Barcelona is not the easiest of 70.3 courses, with a bike course that boasts a rather long climb followed by a rather technical descent. Olivia Ross-Hurst, Alex Bump, Ed Head, Rachel Brown, Chris Brown, Carolina Lanza, and Jackie Curley all went out to race, and everyone completed some impressive performances. Well done to Liv for qualifying for worlds, and to Jackie for a new 70.3 swim PB despite a tough day out. Moreover, our overall performance as a club earned us the top position for Division III, and we can now claim to be 70.3 European champs!

Ironman 70.3 European Club Champs!

Finally, in the single sport events, well done to Anna Tyndall, Emma Guthrie, and Gareth Read for completing the Hackney Half, and to Lucy Orhnial for completing the SWRC May Flyer sportive over the weekend.
