Race Report W/E 23rd June

A mostly triathlon focused weekend, with Middle Distance and London League racing going on. Some great race results that go beyond the few glimpses scene on Social media.

Immortal Wimbleball

Over in Exmoor National Park (a beautiful part of the UK if you haven’t been), Immortal’s latest event, at Wimbleball lake, was being raced this weekend. Our club members out racing were: Katie Marsh; Jonathan (Jonnty) Bloomfield; and, Borja Portos.

In the Middle Distance event, Borja came in first for the club, finishing 7th overall in a time of 5hr 30min, and claiming a silver podium position! Jonnty finished a mere 18min later in 21st position. And, Katie stormed into the finish line in 6hr 35min, and also bagged a silver podium place!!

The Bridge Triathlon

This is the latest London League race – one of the most important competitions Ful-on Tri takes place in during the race season. In the London League, our club members have the chance for personal glory, not just in individual races, but across the entire race series. More importantly, the points every club member in an event scores count towards overall club standings – something we have won in previous years!

Whilst the entries to The Bridge triathlon were in smaller numbers than League events so far this season, we did have some great outcomes. Alexie Calvert-Ansari, Gina Siebler, and Rhys Davies were all out representing Ful-on Tri this weekend.

Alexie not only came in first for the club, but finished second overall and claimed a silver medal podium spot! Rhys narrowly missed placing in his category finishing in 2hr 53min. And regular racing queen Gina was not far behind in 3hr 10min, claiming a PB!!

Weybridge 10k

Racing for Precision Race Team, club member Ed Dennis was shelving the other two disciplines for a “fun” 10k over in Weybridge.

Ironman 70.3 Elsinore

Social media can sometimes portray a skewed picture, particularly when all eyes are on club champ Ruth Purbrook. The reality is we had 5 (actually 4 + one very recent former) awesome club members racing in the latest Ironman middle distance event: Ruth Purbrook; Andrew Feeney-Seale (who only recently moved on from the club); Lea Marie Burek; Rob Finn; and, Kenneth Murray.

Ruth came in first for the club, in a time of 4hr 26min, 13th woman, and coming 1st in her race category! Kenneth was only 2 minutes behind, followed by Rob Finn in 4hr 44min, and Andrew barely 6 minutes later!! Lea Marie, still on the ascendancy at a relative younger age for longer distance triathlons, followed her Swim and Bike legs with an awesome run, which saw her claim back 30 places, to finish in just under 6 hours. Great racing by all!!

As usual, if anyone is missing from this week’s race results, or you need to let me know about an upcoming race in the next few weekends, please email me on fixtures@fulontri.com.
